Abstract: We propose samples of texts adapted from popular French magazines, newspapers literary texts together with texts purposely written for this dissertation. The exercises that follow are intended to develop comprehension, use of new lexical items, knowledge of syntax and French civilisation in the student of French. We based our work on the Indicative and Subjunctive modes, that is the modes learnt locally up till the third year in the learning of the French language. Civilisation plays an important part in the choice of our texts, as one cannot learn a language without the awareness of its culture. The texts serve as a point of departure for the acquisition of lexical and syntaxical items. These items are presented through language games. To facilitate the comprehension of the texts and the working out of the language games, we introduced a 'French - French Dictionary' for every Dossier. The teacher's book is aimed at providing the teacher with the contents of the Dossier at a glance. Also help is provided for correction be means of the key to the exercises.
