Abstract: This evaluation of text-books, Lehrwerkanalyse, is meant to emphasise the major differences in the didactic approach, methodological principles and thematic content between K1 and Deutsch konkret 1, two beginners' course-books for the teaching of German as a foreign language. This Lehrwerkanalyse has been done according to a system of objective criteria established specifically for the purpose of Lehrwerkana lyse. This Lehrwerkanalyse has brought me to the conclusion that since the present aim in foreign language teaching is to promote and develop communicative competence in the learners and, since this principle is actually the main principle followed by Deutsch konkret 1, this recent text-book should then replace K1 that does no longer qualify as a modern communicative text-book for the teaching of German to young adolescents.
