dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study is to define leading theories of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADiID) in relation with the characteristics of a child. The main aim was to investigate the subject's academic achievement through two school terms. A case study was used as a research tool and the data was gathered from observations at home, inside the child's classroom setting and school breaks; and interviews that were carried out with the Teacher Support Co-ordinator of the school, who works very closely with the child, the Class Facilitator and the mother of the child. Results from this research indicate that the child in question is able to cope well at school with the help of people who are surrounding and supporting him. Also, the subject did quite well at school over the two school terms, but not as well as had been expected, as some leading theories have suggested. Chapter 4 will give a detailed account of the information gathered, including also a socio-metric test that shows his relation with his peers, whereas Chapter 5 will discuss these findings including how the school offers help to the parents with children who have learning difficulties, giving them extra-support lessons, adapting notes, using structure and visuals. The last chapter will conclude this thesis outlining recommendations in relation to this study. In general the profile of this case study suggests literature findings. | en_GB |
