dc.description.abstractThe aim of this dissertation is to test the hypothesis that pre, on-site and post activities enable the teacher to reap the potential of educational outings, in the best ways possible. This study provides an insight into the benefits accrued from learning beyond the four walls of the classroom, and how these benefits of experiential learning can be made more meaningful to pupils. Year Four pupils from different classes and schools will participate in a comparative study aimed to establish their achievement in learning beyond the classroom. The comparison will be made between experimental groups of Year 4 classes after involving themselves in pre, on-site and post activities, and control groups of the same age, after being involved in a passive way during outings. This comparative analysis clearly aims to show that pre, on-site and post activities make a difference in the pupils' learning beyond the classroom, by enhancing the experiences. Therefore the study highlights the importance of including these activities that are combined with educational outings. Included in the study, practical suggestions are given in a Teacher's Companion Book aimed to help teachers who would like to provide pupils with more meaningful educational outings.en_GB
