Abstract: This work involves a number of historical studies concerned with the period 800 BC 1530 AD in Maltese history. The period opens with the arrival of the Phoenicians and ends with the arrival of the Knights. The studies were mainly based on the historical relics found in a given region of Malta, that region which, for the purposes of this work, has been defined as South East Malta. The historical relics were collected, analysed and interpreted in the light of material already published. The remains are listed in gazetteers at the end of relevant chapters. In the case of the Punic, Roman, Byzantine and Arab periods, a subsequent section was . added with the aim of providing a further interpretation: that of the South East within the context of the whole Archipelago. The studies are also accompanied by a number of illustrations including figures, diagrams and photographs.
