Conflict is a human personal and social reality which can be detected within us and which emerges on a social scale. The importance of conflict is oftenly conveyed within literature, so we have authors like Greene dealing with man's complex beliefs, relationships and also with the social rift that appears in almost all societies. Graham Greene, being a major writer of our century, was considered to have a complex personality himself, and also as being fascinated with paradoxes. He was interested in social conflict as his novels show, and most oftenly sided with those on struggle. In this dissertation the nature of social conflict in relation to Graham Greene and his works is discussed; one will see Greene's commitment to the emarginated and failures, and his readiness to find ways of fighting injustices. The final part describes how, in his later novels Greene finds in the Liberation Movement a way through which the oppressed of Latin America can be liberated from all kinds of deprivations.en_GB
