Children's play

Abstract

This dissertation was aimed at giving a general perspective of the concept of play: what is play?, types of play, relationship with the children's development, games. Apart from analysing some of the various aspects of play, a questionnaire was administered to a sample of 200 Maltese children (95 boys and 105 girls} attending State Primary Schools. These children attended Year V of the Primary School, thus having an age of nine or ten years. The study considered the sample of children as a whole group, as well as by sex difference. The children's play activities, their preferences and what they think about their play activities were considered in this study. It was meant also to give a justification to the inclusion of play and games in the Physical Education curriculum.
