Citation: Farrugia, W. (2002). CPU emulator and assembler for Windows : a teaching tool (Bachelor's dissertation).
Abstract: Computer Architecture and Assembly language programming are quite abstract concepts even when taught at both Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) and Advanced Level. Consequently, these topics need to be made accessible to the average student through the use of appropriate resources. This dissertation shows how a computer-based resource can help in the teaching of hardware topics. It also creates a new environment in which to teach a merged concept of both computer architecture and assembly language. After considering existing resources and sources of teaching material, the implementation of an emulator for an 8086- like CPU will be discussed. The emulation tool was trailed with teachers and students.
