Abstract: This study deals with basic foot, arm and head positions as well as steps and exercises in dance and how they can be used and modified for the teaching of Gymnastics in Secondary Schools. Chapter one begins to describe the reasons why dance has so much to contribute towards Gymnastics and explains the relationship of Laban 1s four movement factors towards Gymnastics. Chapter two then describes different dance styles while chapter three explains the actual head arm and foot positions and why they are so important for Gymnastic skills. Chapter four and five include explanations of Warm-Up exercises and actual dance steps while chapter six includes exercises specially adapted for the use of the gymnast. Finally a case study in chapter seven will seek to examine the difference between a group trained in dance and gymnastic skills and another group trained only in formal Gymnastic skills from the point of view of form, style and technique.
