Abstract: The increasing importance of Information Technology in all areas of today's society led to the introduction of computers into all Maltese primary schools. This ethnographic case study was designed to explore the role of Information Technology in the teaching and learning of English in two Year 2 classes of a selected Maltese state primary school. Both the teachers involved in the study were interviewed prior to the classroom observations and asked how they are making use of educational software when teaching English. Data obtained from five lessons observed in each class, the interviews with the teachers and feedback gathered from the children and teachers at the end of each lesson helped to determine whether and how the two teachers are using the potential that educational software offers for motivating the students to learn and use the English language.
