The dissertation deals with the way Conrad treats man's problems, for which problems there is no simple solution or ready answer; hence the dilemmas which form part and parcel of life. The work examines how Conrad's works generate much soul-searching and anxiety and overviews the fact that there can be no assurance that the course of action embarked upon will yield the desired results. The importance of going on fighting is considered. Finally, there is an analysis of why life seems to be suffering and groping around in the darkness. The author explores such complexities, pain and justification for such occurrences.en_GB
