Home Economics is a very context bound subject, however in the local situation we rely heavily on foreign textbooks for our Home Economics lessons. This dissertation aims to plan and develop a textbook on the main Home Economics areas for Form 3 students which will be based in a Maltese context but will also cover international issues. A teachers' needs assessment exercise was conducted in order to elicit the particular teachers' needs and suggestions as regards the development of a Home Economics textbook for Form 3 students. A total of twenty-five teachers, from different types of schools participated in this exercise. Based on these :findings the researcher developed a textbook, covering all the theoretical aspects mentioned in the local Form 3 state school Home Economics syllabus. Care was taken to make the textbook student-friendly and indiscriminately. The textbook developed was further tested with Form 3 students and their teachers. The overall results indicated that the development of the textbook was successful.en_GB
