Abstract: New thrusts in the field of fluorescence sensing with molecules and materials are gathered together covering the past five years (2014-2019). A common theme is the sensing of multiple chemical species and physiochemical parameters. Photoinduced electron transfer (PET), internal charge transfer (ICT), aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) are some of the photochemical concepts discerned. Progress on sensing in water, Pourbaix sensors, lab-on-a-molecule systems, heterogeneous environments and material science with promising applications are notably highlighted.
