Title: | The faith journey of Nicodemus in the fourth gospel |
Authors: | Camilleri, Wallace |
Keywords: | Nicodemus (Biblical figure) Bible. John -- Commentaries |
Issue Date: | 2012 |
Abstract: | This essay will deal with one of the Johannine characters, namely Nicodemus. This character features in three different episodes, John 3, John 7 and John 19. These three episodes will guide us in the three main chapters of this essay. In the first chapter, we will analyse why Nicodemus went to Jesus at night and what is the relevance of this detail to John's language. In the second chapter we will focus on John 7 where Nicodemus tries to defend Jesus. In the third chapter, we will probe in John 19 where we read that Nicodemus went to bury Jesus. In doing so we will try to show the relationship of these three chapters and whether Nicodemus is moving away from darkness to light or the possibility of remaining in darkness. |
