Over the last years, we have witnessed an ever increasing necessity of protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development. There is a general consensus that education plays a very significant role, since this process must start with educating children from their primary school years. Educators themselves are gradually becoming more and more aware of the importance of the introduction of environmental education in the curriculum. From the teacher's perspective, there is an abundance of resources related to Environmental Education but unfortunately they are scattered and the right resources are not always readily traceable. The scope of this dissertation is to create an Environmental Education Virtual Resource Centre, gathering as many resources and information related to Environmental Education as possible under one easily accessible source, utilizing the most widespread and accessible communications medium, the Internet. The Virtual Resource Centre (http://www.ee-online.net) is intended to provide educators with an organised collection of suitable resources for teaching about environmental issues and themes and/or integrating environmental concepts within the formal curriculum. Although the website is primarily intended for educators, especially Primary teachers, it is also targeted at all stakeholders interested in collaborating with teachers to create awareness about environmental issues and sustainable development. Prior to and during the actual development of the website, the needs and requirements of potential users were carefully considered.en_GB
