Abstract

Research has been carried out on the works of various authors of the XVII and XVIII centuries related to their experiences of travel. The first chapter gives a brief look at the interest travel evoked through the ages and how it came to give rise to an interesting and varied array of related literature. The second chapter considers the influence Italian literature had on Maltese culture during the XVII and XVIII centuries. The third chapter analyses the experiences of four foreign writers (an Italian, an English and two French) who visited Malta between 1773 and 1793. The last chapter throws light upon the works of two Maltese authors who travelled abroad during the XVII century.
