Abstract

Due to our concern about inmates and ex-inmates, together with our goals for improving their possibilities for employment, it is felt that first hand experience from their part, would help in reaching valid conclusions about the problems they face when seeking employment. For prisoners, finding a job is crucial for their rehabilitation. ''For most offenders, finding a job is their best hope of going straight, preventing re-offending, and therefore protecting the public from future crimes. ''2 Among the problems inmates and ex-inmates face when looking for a job, one finds: • Lack of qualifications. • Lack of job seeking skills. • Stigma of society. • Unwillingness of employers to take the risk of recruiting a convict or ex convict.
