Abstract: A person seeking to invest his assets in the securities market has two broad alternatives: direct or indirect investing. Although picking one's own shares directly can prove to be an interesting exercise, being one's own investment manager may not be economically feasible since few people are likely to have the time, knowledge and skill or qualifications of an investment analyst. Furthermore, few people have sufficient money to build up a portfolio which diversifies risk properly.
