The right to development : a comprehensive approach towards universal human rights

Abstract

A general look at what is happening around the globe would make one wonder how come there are so many differences, disparities and inequalities. To a certain extent differences can be explained. For example, one would never expect an Eskimo to behave like a Pueblo Indian for the simple reason that their natural surroundings are part of their formation. However disparities and inequalities are the outcome of interventions of humankind. The great divide between rich and poor is the creation of humankind who, over the years, did not distribute adequately the riches of the. world. Yet a factor that greatly contributed in creating disparities has been the personal greed of humankind at large. By nature all individuals seek their own interests and personal development. Unfortunately this is sought at the expense of others. Therefore to a certain extent, developing disparities seem to be somewhat accepted. But, are there any limits to this? Should the more developed be unrestricted in the quest of developing further at the expense of those who do not have the facilities to react? Why is the gap between rich and poor always widening? Can this gap be bridged? How can the weak achieve constructive development?
