Abstract: This research paper explored the relationship of authenticity and integrity with regards to the reconstruction of trauma-hit sites. In the process, the importance of intangible heritage arose, and how often it was encountered in the definitions in the literature review. The analysis was based on four case studies, of which two where solved reconstructed case studies - the Royal Castle of Warsaw, Poland, and the Temple of the Sacred Relic of the Tooth in Kandy, Sri Lanka. While another two case studies that went through a trauma and have the potential to be reconstructed - the Basilica of San Benedetto in Norcia, Italy, and Al-Madina Souq in Aleppo, Syria. The main theme throughout the case study was identity of a place, which was defined through three main pillars: function, community connection and continuity. As a conclusion, a series of recommendations were suggested targeting decision makers in post-trauma scenarios.
