Citation: Delia, A. (2010). An analysis of the free trade area between the European Union and Tunisia (Master's dissertation).
Abstract: The dissertation will thus observe some of the predicted and actual repercussions that have manifested themselves in Tunisia after the signing of the 1995 Association Agreement, particularly within the political, economic, legal, environmental and social aspects that make up the country. Tunisia was the first North African country to sign an association agreement of this kind, and has since then been leading the region in regards to the implementation of economic reforms. Tunisia may also in the near future be the first North African country to sign an agreement giving it the title of "advanced partner status" with the European Union. Throughout this dissertation, the topics that could very well be on the negotiating table of this next step in the relationship between the European Union and Tunisia will also be highlighted. One must however also note that there is a growing opposition towards the granting of this status, a phenomenon brought about primarily as a result of the worsening democratic and human rights situation that is brewing in Tunisia. Unless these shortcomings are remedied, Tunisia's new status will remain on shaky grounds.
