Abstract

This work presents an academic research for teachers on the various customs, beliefs and superstitions of the Maltese people. The aim of this work is to make teachers and children aware of their own heritage of lore and tradition. Folklore is part of our heritage and therefore part of the knowledge which we cannot afford to ignore. This work presents some of the customs and beliefs regarding the three main phases in the life-cycle of man; pregnancy, birth and infancy; courtship, engagement and marriage; sickness and death. This work has been divided into four chapters, each chapter illustrates a particular phase in life. Accompanying this book, there is a workbook for students and other useful material. This work is meant to be used in schools, with children in Forms 1 and 2.
