The Israeli violations of human rights in [the] Jenin Camp

Abstract

The violation of human rights in the Camp of Jenin has been chosen as the subject of this thesis. Both the local and international media have dealt with this subject extensively. Thanks to the media, most people in the world gained a certain degree of awareness of the real political situation in the Occupied Territories. Also, the extent of the violations of human rights in Jenin were of a very high degree, and yet, despite this, few people have a real understanding of what really happened. In this dissertation I will not only put forward my personal point of view but I will also consider that of the international community as a whole. The main focus of this dissertation is not only concerned with the massacre per se, but most importantly, it seeks to prove the fact that violence knows no boundaries. As a matter of fact, although several governments have begun taking serious measures to prohibit violence and killing, others still ignore international law. This means that violation of human rights still exists and it is not confined to one part of the world. 'Ibis study is rendered complete by the analysis of local testimony as seen through the eyewitnesses. Finally, I have found a lot of difficulty in writing this dissertation for many reasons, including the lack of references related to the subject and the fact that the Israeli actions in Jenin refugee camp recently took place. Another point is that I myself visited the Camp of Jenin on the 19th of April 2002 as part of a Palestinian and foreign journalists, a week after the curfew was lifted. Therefore, I personally witnessed many of the facts I am writing about.
