Abstract: Stemming out from the ever-increasing complexities in architectural design, architects sought to take different approaches in the way they communicated their design intents. A historical analysis shows how the role of the architect and the architectural process from design to production evolved. The architectural discipline defined the architect as the conceiver of the design, using the notational drawing as the tool to communicate his intents to those who will physically execute them.
