dc.description.abstractNatural freshwater resources in the Maltese islands are dependent solely on groundwater availability, which due to unsustainable abstraction have been progressively degraded, rendering higher scarcity of such resources. Rapid increase in impervious surfaces contribute to lower infiltration volumes whilst contributing to flooding in downstream areas. The obligation of buildings to store the stormwater in cistrens has been disregarded, primarily due to a lack of enforcement.en_GB
