Abstract: In July 1972, when I visited the late Professor J.R.R Tolkien in Oxford, he stated that the Ring trilogy (1954-55) is an attempt at following his precept of the fairy-tale as explained in his Andrew Lang lecture delivered in the University of St Andrews in 1938, and later published in Essays Presented to Charles Williams (1947).
