The aim of this thesis on Mary Shelley is to focus on her tendency to draw from personal experiences when it came to writing her novels. Mary Shelley's generation lived in a seismic society and contemporary Romantic writers also showed a concern for the community at large and it was inevitable that, in their writings, they reacted to political and social issues. Immersed in the cultural milleau of the time, Mary Shelley was convinced that literature was not an optional, cultural pastime but an integral part of civilization concerned with life with an interest in the betterment of mankind.en_GB
