Abstract: This study is an exploration of the two-part relationship between the Architect, Civil/Structural Engineer and the Client. By Client, one implies the traditional definition to which a professional provides services. It explores the relationship from its earliest conception, briefly analyzing various typologies that have existed historically and attempting to decipher its development. The same exploration shall be made locally, studying the evolving title of the 'Perit' and its interaction with the Client through time. It proceeds to examine the current situation, focusing on the social complexities between both players in relation to the design process. The study aims to define various typologies in which both the 'Client' and 'Architect' appear as, discussing issues related to decision-making power and design ownership. Observations and a case study analysis shall attempt to analyze whether these prove true in practice. Furthermore, the challenges the profession faces in relation to global economic developments shall be discussed in relation to their effect on the relationship. Next, the dissertation attempts to propose a 'rekindling' of lost professional values that are currently lacking in the relationship. It proposes a more inclusive method of design that takes advantage of the expertise of both players. Various professional qualities and methods are promoted as a means for Architects to adopt in order to improve the design process and improve Client relations. Finally, the study attempts to predict future relationship developments due to evolving roles. It shall re-examine these in order to determine the part the future 'Perit' shall play.
