Abstract: The spectral properties of graphs have proved to model desirable properties in networks. To achieve fast transfer rate, the second largest eigenvalue played a crucial part. The graphs with the second largest eigenvalue less than the golden ration 17 are a subclass of cographs. Cographs are characterised as P4-free graphs where P4 is the path on four vertices. It is the aim of this dissertation to explore the spectral and combinatorial properties of cographs and their subfamilies.
