Abstract: "Tho Great Goddess", "The Primordial Mother" or whatever you call her has been referred to so often and for such a long time that it is refreshing to hear voices denying that anything like that ever existed. Thanks to A. Bonanno and the University of Malta this critical choir was set in a wider context -speakers invited to the Malta conference on t.his theme represented the whole spectrum. from radical skeptics to stubborn conservatives. Moreover in the published documents each of the four groups of papers illuminates the problem from a different angle and with different intensity. the core of the discussion being in the first and second group of papers.
