Abstract: Presently, the Web is moving towards a Web of Data and a Web of Things. This can be realised by applying Semantic Web techniques to structure the data on the Web. Although social sharing websites are currently employing Semantic Web techniques to structure their data, these websites still stand in isolation since most of the data is not linked. Moreover, these social sharing websites that utilise structured data, some of them do not adhere to the vocabularies recommended by the Linked Open Data initiative. Therefore, this dissertation explains the importance of structuring data using Semantic Web techniques and adhering to vocabularies recommended by the Linked Open Data Community.
