Abstract: The endemic Mediterranean seagrass Posidonia oceanica usually occurs at depths ranging between 1 and 40m. However, previous surveys carried out locally off Comino, and in the vicinity of is-Sikka l-Bajda, recorded the occurrence of seagrass at depths exceeding 42m. The main aims of this study were to confirm the lower depth limit of P. oceanica meadows at these three sites, and to study the growth rate and phenological characteristics of the seagrass in the 25m to 45m depth range.
