Abstract: The emergence of grid technologies and the support of comprehensive frameworks such as the Globus Toolkit has spurned rapid development and deployment of distributed applications. Despite this, even the largest of grid installations in place today are far smaller, in terms of participating members, than existing Peer-to-Peer networks. This dissertation focuses on work to bridge the gap between the two by constructing a peer-to-peer network that is able to provide some of the functionality normally associated solely with grid technologies.
