Abstract: Irrigated land in Malta forms only about 11.7% of the total arable land and most of the irrigated land belongs to medium-sized farms (2.25 - 2.50 ha). Furrow irrigation is still the most popular method of irrigation hut use of sprinklers and trickle irrigation is widespread. The Harbour Region and the Northern Region are richest in irrigated land; however, the highest density occurs in the Western Region.
