Abstract: The stinging nettle (Urtica dioica L.) is a local medicinal plant that contains the plant lectin, Urtica dioica Agglutinin (UDA). UDA which is the first lectin to be isolated from a member of the, Urnicaece family is a small monomeric protein with high contents of glycine, cysteine nnrl trytophan. UDA is able to aggluninate erythrocytes, induces considerable amounts of antiviral activity in the cell cultures, and stimulates profileration lymphocites.
