Abstract: It is estimated that total post harvest losses of grains can be as high as 50% in some countries. Most result from infestation by insects, microorganisms, rodents and birds. A smaller but quite significant proportion of the total losses results from respiration and gradual deterioration of viability, nutritive quality, and end - use properties during storage.
