Divers at work : a proposed legislation

Abstract

This thesis relates to the diving industry in Malta. The author reviews the employment common practice and standards which are visible and important in most industries yet not given their due importance, if at all, during a dive operation, professionally or otherwise. The author reviews not only the Maltese system of employment for diving, however also provides a comparative study of different legal systems which have a prominent diving industry, and how legislative measures were taken to protect and reduce the employer and the employee from any additional risk that might arise in an already risky operation. The author finalises this thesis with a proposed legislation with the understanding of legal principles and norms discussed throughout the chapters.
