This study discusses the position and experiences of women working in journalism. The aim of this dissertation is to explore the 'participation' and 'issues of access' for female journalists in their workplace. With particular reference to the barriers and difficulties women face in the work place. Besides discussing feminist perspectives on the media, it includes the initiatives taken by the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women and Women in Action 2000 to improve the position and decision making role of women working in media organisations. The study concludes with an analysis of in-depth interviews of female journalists obtained through a qualitative and feminist research approach.en_GB
