Abstract: This dissertation is in the form of a project: the compilation, design and printing of a recipe-book based on needs criteria elicited from a sampling of the Maltese public. A review of the literature on design, with particular reference to demonstrative media, was carried out in order to help the development of this project. Mixed gender focus groups were conducted with participants of different ages and various levels of knowledge in design and varying interest in recipe books. Participants discussed various aspects of recipe book design such as page size, paper quality, binding, layout, type size and style, alignment, leading, colour use and images. They suggested a square cut on matte-gloss paper with wire-o binding, using 12 to 14pt sans serif type, left aligned. Angled photos with bright colours were suggested. The result of this was a recipe-book project, which served as a practical manifestation of all the integrated data collected.
