Abstract: | Millions of people around the world are avid members of the television audience. Television enters into the everyday lives of people living in different places in various ways. Therefore, it is worth studying the underlying reasons why people actually watch T. V. This dissertation introduces the reader to television audience research and looks at some of the research traditions that dominated this field. My objective was to study teenage television audiences - to study why they consume such u medium as television. The particular teenagers in the study were students of a different gender and were also segmented into Maltese and foreign students. The purpose of this segmentation was to see whether differences do emerge in teenage television consumption. A qualitative method applied in my study, using the focus group technique. Adopting this approach I was able to give a voice to each and every teenager enabling them to express what they actually think about watching television. |
