Abstract: This study is an introductory exploration of Human Resource Management (HRM) within the dominant Maltese media organisations. The aim of the study is to discover how much value is given to recruitment, training and reward procedures. Semi-structured interviews were administered to those responsible for human resources procedures within media organisations. Semi-structured interviews were also administered to employees to attain a different perspective to HRM procedures. Results shows that HRM is still a new notion on the island and within media organisations. Due to financial constraints, media organisations do not invest in a specialised Human Resources Manager to be responsible for recruitment, training and reward procedures. Results show that media organisations have no qualified personnel responsible for the organisations' most vital assets: human resources. It is hoped that this study would heighten the importance of HRM within media organisations, thus obtaining, motivating and retaining the committed and competent people it needs to accomplish its mission
