Abstract: This study takes a functional approach to designing a Gaming Magazine. A review of the literature informs about functional and informational graphic design. The methodology section goes into detail about the design process, using information gleaned from the literature to justify choices made, such as the selection of a four-column grid, the use of justified 10pt type and the placement of images, the use of reversed-out layout and other design elements; that are then practically applied in the design of the magazine itself. The main conclusions drawn from this study are that even in the age of desktop publishing design should be approached in a systematic manner that takes into consideration practices that originate from traditional graphic design, such as suitable to topic placement of objects on a page and the use of proportioned margins.
