Abstract: This dissertation examines the current situation of female journalists in Malta with particular reference to possible problems that they might encounter in their journalistic career. This study also seeks to explore the future intentions of women in this profession. While considering empirical research carried out on this subject over the past years, specific importance is also given to contemporary literature regarding the role of women in journalism. Moreover, particular attention is given to the seminars and conferences which took place in Malta and which focused in particular on gender awareness in news organizations, and gender equality in broadcasting. This study was conducted through quantitative research. A total of thirteen female journalists participated in this study, which almost amounts to half of the female population of journalists in Malta. From this research it resulted that despite the problems that female journalists face in this profession, their future intentions still remain strong.
