| Abstract: | This Dissertation involves the study of Light in film, both artificial and natural, and how it can be used as an expressive element, not just a means to produce good quality shots. Light is fundamental and an essential tool in film and should thus be studied greatly so as to harness it and use it effectively. Yet it is important to distinguish the boundary where the necessity to create proper exposed shots, and what is aesthetically appealing begins and ends. Some regard film as an art, while some take a more technical and by the book approach. Can there be a mesh of the two viewpoints? Are both fundamentally necessary? |
