Perennial question that philosophers have never been able to answer is man's ichant for deriving meaning from apparently neutral objects. Be it a tear in an old man's eye or the barbed wire around the perimeter of a jail, anything that befalls a man being's glance will be infused with meaning once the image superimposed on : retina is processed by the brain. lt the conundrum does not stop there because as postmodernism has taught us; an object can mean many things to many people. This is where I derive my fascination with the visual arts, because (although postmodernists would not agree with me on s ), if images are infused with meaning by man, then it must be the ultimate challenge to control those images in a certain specific manner to convey the particular message that you want to transport from one psyche (sender) to another (receiver) rough allusions and metaphors, but also through colours and movements that may unify a thousand things but are moulded by the artist to convey that particular meaning that he wants to give his portrait, or sculpture or film. Furthermore, film adds a dimension to the traditional arts as it incorporates both sight and sound, and this added dimension increases the challenges of filmmaking, because there are more meanings possible, making it a much more exciting enterprise. But that itself is a short sighted statement because one must not only consider the "Oduction'' aspect of a film. There is more to it than that because the actual script writing is an endeavour that quires creative and artistic attributes, so in the whole process of filmmaking another - namely literature - is incorporated, and this line of reasoning can also be extended to incorporate music, painting, design etc ..en_GB
