Abstract: This dissertation undertakes to analyse the quality of acting in Maltese teleserials. The study investigates whether Maltese actors adapt their theatre acting skills to screen and how they go through this transition. The dissertation examines the problems faced by Maltese actors working for TV, and also how theatre experts, TV experts, and common viewers perceive the quality of the acting. The research delves into the problems in the production of teleserials and tries to suggest some solutions to improve the quality of the acting and of the teleserials as a whole. This dissertation starts with an overview of the available literature on screen acting dealing mainly with screen acting techniques used widely in the field of screen acting. The dissertation continues with a description of the research methods and tools used. Two methods of qualitative research were used for this study: first, a series of interviews with directors and actors were conducted and then two focus groups were held, one with theatre and TV experts and the other with common viewers. The disse1iation ends with the results and analysis of the material and information collected through the interviews and the focus groups. The conclusion suggests some solutions to improve the quality of the acting and of the teleserials as a whole and suggests also any further studies that could be carried out in the field.
