Abstract: Some time around 1200BC the world of the Eastern Mediterranean underwent a profound change. Hordes of invaders of obscure origin, the so-called Sea Peoples, slowly but inexorably swept over it, bringing chaos andd exchange. When the dust of these events had died down, the Bronze Age was at an end in the Near East. The Iron Age had begun, and a new cast of characters took up the key roles in the drama of ancient history.
