Abstract: This dissertation addresses the issue of local scriptwriting by presenting a layout that writers may follow in order to guide their creative process. A number of vital aspects in story development are outlined through integrating various works of persons who are prominent in the field of scriptwriting. It aims at analysing two local scripts Simshar and Qerq - against a set of well-established criteria. Therefore the methodology used is based on a content analysis approach, in order to evaluate and create a critical analysis of both scripts. The purpose of this study is to highlight and perhaps strengthen tile positive elements present in Maltese scriptwriting. Moreover, it targets at underlining the weaknesses of these scripts, together with a justification of why these factors would be regarded as flaws. As a result, the analysis of this dissertation suggests ways in which the film script may be enhanced so as to create an overall story, rich in quality. Furthermore, it stresses upon the importance of 'Silent Screenplay' as well as the creation of an in depth character profile, sometimes also referred to as a 'Character Bible'. These elements are essential to fulfil the aspects discussed in the literature review.
