Abstract: | Meaningfulness of architecture has become a central theme in recent architectural theory where, need is constantly being felt to instil ways and means of giving direction and scope to the shaping of man's environment and its interpretation. Christian Norberg-Shultz in his essay "Meaning in Architecture' ( 1) describes the present state in architecture in this manner: ' ... the present tendencies in architec ture get a wider perspective. When many architects cannot any more content themselves with an efficient satisfaction of man's physical needs, it is because of an increasing doubt in the post-mediaeval conception of the world'. |
