Abstract: Sensation refers to the immediate, relatively unprocessed result of stimulation of the sensory receptors in the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, or skin. Perception, on the other hand, is the process through which organisms interpret and organize sensation to produce a meaningful experience of the world. Sensorial perception is associated with how the human mind relates to a specific object, recalling past experiences linked to similar colours, textures, and/or forms. Past experiences which contribute to the development of the human psyche also influence the way in which a building is perceived as being functional and aesthetically pleasing or not. This study will focus on how to stimulate unique experiences for the occupant’s senses by means of texture and the effects that lighting can induce on the surface. Architecture is given life when its components animated by the use of materials and the way people relate to them.
